How do you choose the correct color to prime your canvas with?

I come accross the following information which was very helpful to me.

This is a very important part of the process of creating a painting or artwork, as it is overall impacting the mood and tone of your finished painting.

Why is White the most common choice for priming?

This is due to the fact that it creates a neutral, blank canvas which is ideal to work on and thus a great starting point.

Should you however want to add some warmth and depth to your artwork, it is suggested that you use a colored background, like a yellow ochre or burnt sienna.

Enjoy experimenting and will add some more color tips soon.

Burnt sienna, for example, creates an earthy, warm undertone that can be particularly useful in landscapes or portraits. Yellow ochre, on the other hand, creates a more muted, golden tone that works well for portraits and still lifes.

In addition to the aesthetic benefits, using a colored ground can also make it easier to judge values and color relationships in your painting, as the underlying color influences how subsequent layers of paint appear.
